Further up the main road Tampak siring is another holy spring at Temple Tirtha Empul, which bubbles up through black sand withim a sacred enclosure inside, the source of the Pakerisan River. The Balinese believe that the spring was created by the Hindu god Indra, who pierced the earth to create tirta (holy water) in order to revive his soldiers who were poisoned by the demon King Mayadanawa was build during rhe 10th century, and the waters gushing through its many spouts are said to have magical curative powers. People opten journey here from near and far to purify themselves in the pools after presenting a small offering to the spring's deity. Sacred Barong dance masks and costumer are also spiritually recharged here.
